My NASLite+ boxes sit headless in a small utility room and normally need no attention at all :D Every once in a while I need to do some maintenace that requires me to drag in and temporarily setup a monitor. I'd like to get a small, cheap monitor that i can leave connected in the utility room but so far everyting I found is geared towards the automotive or portable market and is expensive.

Anybody know of a small cheap ($100 max) monitor that can be used?

I use a 12+ year old permanently connected Sony CRT that gets the job done, although it takes a while to "warm up" and is pretty dim. I suggest getting a deal on a small refurbished LCD ... should cost you less that $70. If you're brave, try ebay. Else try http://www.pricewatch.com/monitors/ or occasionally a good deal can be had at http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&lob=MON&MODEL_DESC=ALL&s=dfh.

Thanks Georg. The key for me is that I need something small, there is not enough room i the closet for a "normal sized" LCD monitor. I need something in the 7" to 9" range.

I had the same problem ... but being unwilling to a] spend more; b] "re-cycle" (instead of trash) a still working CRT; and c] it being somewhat low priority; and finally d] frequency of use being so low; ... I instead  re-arranged the closet space to accommodate the CRT. Not sure if that's doable in your case.

I had the luck to get, on eBay, a small lcd monitor (11")
previously used in a cashout system

it came with it's own pci graphics card
the beauty of it: that card provides power to the monitor via the vga cable

so I only have to plug the vga cable in the vga extension cable, modded into the front, and we have picture
