I built this Naslite system using a new 200GB Seagate drive, see model info below.

SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.8 200GB 7200RPM 8MB 8MS ATA100 OEM IDE HARD DRIVE ( ST3200826A)

I installed it and set it up using one of the Intel gigabit pro cards mentioned in the manual. I can send to naslite at 57MB/s with no problem, but when I try to read anything from the drive, it is very slow, about 2MB/s, and it cuts in and out.

I put in a western Digital drive, and this problem went away. Now aside from the drive possibly being defective, is their any compatibility issues with seagate drives installed with naslite? Thanks for the help.

Ive got the 160GB version of that drive, and I do get problems reading from it, stuttering video and audio etc, but only for about the first 10 mins to an hour of the server being booted, after that its perfect, been running stable for 11 days at the minute

Sorry, that doesnt really help you though

if you problem is the same as chimpuk then it is just a naslite thing, no way around it right now. IT is just runnign extended s.m.a.r.t. tests on the hard drive. When they finish up that is when operation returns to expected.
How big and how old is the western digitial drive I believe smaller drives take alot less time to run the tests also if it is really old I believe it will not even run the tests.

Rare just curious on your server specs that allowed you 57MB/s.
What kind of processor and how much ram.

I have a gigabit floppy version running mine, but that is just to get back to normal 10/100 speeds as the normal floppy versions only go at about 2-3mb/s while the gigabit version will go as fast as hardware will allow, and with my setup that is only 7MB/s. kind of wondering if it is worth upgrading my switches and routers, while keeping a slower computer as the server
