I am having a issue during a 200 GB Rsync between servers. I receive a Code 23 during Rsync and in the SYSLOGs I receive the below message various times. I am looking for additional ideas to try an remove these error messages

This only happens during a Rsync to a different server. If I perform an Rsync between Disk-1 (Host 2) and Disk 3 (Host 4), I do not receive errors.

I have:
Turned off all unrequired devices (Com 1,2 LPT1,USB,Internal SATA)
Each remaining device on own IRQ, VGA 11, Promise SATA 10, Ethernet 5
I have replaced the SATA cable with confirmed SATAII compatible cables

My current setup
NASlite CDD 2.06
Compaq EVO D530 3.0Gz 1 GB Ram
Internal GB ethernet (Broadcom 5782)
Promise SATA300 TX4 4PORT
4 - Seagate ST3500630AS 500GB Drives

It appears you have too many IRQ allocations and some devices end up sharing IRQs. In the BIOS disable everything you don't need such as audio, lpt, com, etc. Reset the BIOS to force resource reallocation and try again.

Tony,

I have turned off all non-required items.

The only PCI devices still seen are
IDE controller
Internal VGA - IRQ 11
Internal GB ethernet (Broadcom 5782) - IRQ 5
Promise SATA300 TX4 4PORT - IRQ 10

I am still having same errors during large (200GB) RSync transfer.
I have moved the Promise Card through all 3 PCI solts

Do you have any other ideas to try.

I appreciate your help

Try turning SMART off for the problem drives in the admin, reboot and try again.

Tony,

I turned off SMART on all 4 drives and the copies are now successful.

Can you explain why SMART would have caused my SCSI sense errors?

Also can you take a quick look at my SYSLOG and see if everything else looks good. I am concerned that my Intel Pro 1000 MT card does not show a IRQ under network status - device details section. The NetGear GA311 did. I switched to the Intel and improved performance during my exhaustive testing to eliminate this SCSI sense error.

In some rare instances it is possible for the SMART probe, a controller and/or its firmware, a drive and/or it's firmware, or any combination of those to introduce incompatibilities that subsequently result in an error. You may check the controller and/or the PC BIOS and enable or disable SMART if the option is available. Then try running NASLite with the SMART probe turned on once again. It is possible that the BIOS places the drive in a state that the NASLite SMART probe does not expect to see, or some other silly condition that is tripping the process.

Anyway, it appears that you have narrowed the problem down to a manageable set of possibilities.
