When there are a number of bad blocks in sequence, you'll not see a screen update until the next good location. That may cause the machine to appear as if it's frozen, but if the drive LED is on, then it's likely doing it's job as required.

The full SMART check will run in the background provided the machine is not reset. You can check the status using the status pages for the drive in question. The SMART info will provide a %-complete indication. If there are errors, those will also be shown in the SMART info.

One other question.....do you have any hard drive temperature limits based upon tests? I know you and Ralph have done some torture testing.
