Won't go into the gory details as to how this may have happened....

Just would like to know what is actually going on during NAS bootup when it freezes on this message for a long period - before ultimately rejecting the disk during bootup.

I've run e2fsck on this disk after bootup only to face the "killed" error message without any indication that the drive actually finished the check.

This run, I've added another 128MB stick. If this cures the e2fsk issue, would appreciate some guidance as to what the actual memory requirements of the NAS2 are for performing disk checks. Have a feeling that 128MB just doesn't cut it with a 500GB disk.

Insights appreciated....

Try a search with "check 500g" and using "Search for all terms". This brings up a post (http://www.serverelements.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1479) that mentions how RAM may affect e2fsk. (Tony increases his estimate ... read through the end of the post.)

My personal preference is at least 512MB for that size drive.
