Hi there,

first of all, thanks for having done such a great job with NasLite-2 CCD!

I am using v2.06 of NasLite-2 CCD in the following hardware environment:

CPU: Intel Pentium 133MHz
Board: Asus P/I-P55TP4N, BIOS 0302 (1996/11/25)
PATA-PCI-Adapter: DawiControl DC-100 RAID (Highpoint HPT372N), BIOS v2.351
HDD: Western Digital WD450AA (45GB)
(I can post more details if necessary)

With only the DC-100 pluged in but no drives connected to it, NasLite boots up fine. It also works when I connect the WD450AA to the onboad IDE controller. However, if I plug the WD450AA on one of the two channels of the DC-100, NasLite does not start anymore but crashes before the login screen appears. While loading the kernel, it comes up with

"unable to handle kernel null pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000",

then posts a hole bunch of other information and finally ends with a kernel panic. The same behavior is present with a Samsung Spinpoint HDD with 160GB.

Any suggestions to solve this problem? I truely would like to operate the HDDs on the DC-100 as it supports even drives >137GB and is faster than the onboard controller.

Thanks in advance, cheers,

Philipp

Definitely IRQ problems. Make sure there are unique IRQs available for the controller and none are shared.

Hi,

infact, it was not a IRQ problem. The solution to the troubles described above was to disable the BIOS on the DC-100 RAID by removing a jumper (JP1).

Now everything works fine, I am happy with my NASLite installation,

thanks!

Now why would you set raid on a software raid card knowing that it will not be supported by Naslite and not tell us about it? Was the initial post a trick question? :P
