Could some kind soul please help me with a few quick answers to these questions that I should know (I been as NASLiter for 2 years):

1. v 1.5 doesn't support external USB drives, right ?

2. no version allows a drive to be partitioned ? (I now have a new 500Gb drive and I want to mirror both a 250Gb and a 160Gb drive - if I could partition the 500 into 2 drives I could mirror both of the other smaller ones to it?) ?

2a. related to above - mirroring a small drive to a larger drive 'wastes' the extra space on the bigger drive?

3. with v 2.xx and an external USB drive, NL still wants to format it to ext3? it can't just pickup the file system that may already be on the drive?

Thanks

- Chris

Correct, v1.5 does not support USB storage.

2. no version allows a drive to be partitioned ? (I now have a new 500Gb drive and I want to mirror both a 250Gb and a 160Gb drive - if I could partition the 500 into 2 drives I could mirror both of the other smaller ones to it?) ?
NASLite-2 creates a single partition spanning the available capacity. There are no facilities for multiple partitions on a given drive.

2a. related to above - mirroring a small drive to a larger drive 'wastes' the extra space on the bigger drive?
Correct, mirroring a small drive to a large one will max at the capacity of the small drive.

3. with v 2.xx and an external USB drive, NL still wants to format it to ext3? it can't just pickup the file system that may already be on the drive?
Correct, NASLite does not have the ability to maintain and manage other filesystems.

:)

Thank you thank you. Nice to get clear simple answers - from the source.

But now I have to ask ... but what if the mirroring drive is smaller than the mirrored drive? Ie data is on a 300Gb drive, only using 150Gb of it, mirrors to a 200Gb drive.

- Thanks

ps: every considered a wiki to record all these faqs and answers ? (maybe with say 10 keen nasliters from the forums to act to the posters)
