I had an 80g WD drive that refused to show up in NL2 as anything more than a 31g drive.. After trying many things suggested in my initial post to the forum for help, I happened to stumble across this from the WD website..

Configuration Problems!

* The BIOS will not detect your drive if the cable connection is not correct. If you are using an Ultra ATA cable 80-conductor (which I was) make sure that the Master or Single drive is on the Black END Connector. Then connect any Slave device present to the gray MIDDLE connector. Finally, the blue end connector should be connected to the motherboard or EIDE controller card. *

I had my drive connected in the middle of an 80 pin cable. I re-arranged my hardware so i could get the CD Rom to the middle and the WD 80g at the end and still make the connection to my Promise Ultra133tx2 that i had just bought to try to resolve this problem to no avail.

I did have to use Fdisk on a Win 98 boot disk to delete the non dos partition, as NL2 refused to format the disk and said it had to be unmounted 1st and i could not see where in NL2 i could do such a thing. Afterwards I rebooted with NL2, used it to format the newly found drive, rebooted and it showed up with its full capacity.. :D

Now im a happy camper and may consider going to larger drives now that i know what can cause such a problem!

I hope this helps someone else out there as i was about to throw in the towel and stick with 31g as all i could get out of my Asus AX 59 Pro MB running NL2.

:D

Thanks to all who offered suggestions to resolve this!
I hope this post can do the same for someone else as well.
