I'm having a problem with share's disconnecting and not reconnecting on Win XP SP2. My machine reboots at 10 minutes to 7pm each day (to get a clean system for HDTV recordings) However once the reboot is done my shares aren't accessible through programs that automatically open files from the shared drives (Quicken for example). I have to manually open explorer and click on the drives and then they are seen just fine by quicken. Other computers in my house have the same problem using different software like xlobby and the like. I'd like to find out why it's happening and stop it as its a major nuisance especially when it's my kids computers and they don't really know how to navigate explorer to the drive to make it visible again.

Thanks,

Lance

Yeah the drive is mapped, reconnects at logon and is there in explorer each time I boot but if you go out to dos and type m: and hit enter it says it's not a valid drive. I have to open explorer and click on M: and then all is fine. The drive is mapped each time (sometimes it become unmapped even when the computer is on but it's not an all the time thing so harder to pinpoint. The real culprit is when I reboot as it happens every time.

I have the same thing going on my laptop, if my WLAN connection is interrupted for some reason the share is disconnected and will not be re-connected unless I go to explorer and click the share. Reconnect at disconnect is enabled.

I used to face the problem, no mater what I did they would disconnect. Seems like it worked for awhile and one of the xp updates it started...

Anyway my fix was using this vb script I found, drop it in startup, so far so good. Not real sure what is different... but you can give it a try...

edit drive list at the bottom of the script to fit your network... some of this could be left out I'm sure but if it works what the heck.....

name it mapdrives.vbs or just make sure the vbs ext and drop in startup

also want to add that I do not have any mapped drives on my system anymore, I let this script handle it all when I boot up, so if you have any remove them then run this.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid this but guess it will be a necessary evil :(
