Hello,

The computer I'd like to use with Naslite is a IBM Aptiva PII 350Mhz 64MB RAM 6GB HD.

Do you think I could add a 300GB hard drive without problems? or Would it be better to add two 200GB hard drives?.

Thank you for the help.

Regards

Either option would work with NASLite. The only limiting factor is how many drives the Aptiva has space for and how many GB of drive you need.

I would prefer only one new 300GB disk, but I was thinking about RAM that maybe only 64MB could slow the access to a disk so large?.

About the space I do not really know how much 3,5 bays it has, but I have several free bays where the CD-ROM unit is and I could buy some kind of box to use them.

Thank you.

Ram is not a factor in how fast you can transfer data. Ram is only used to hold the operating system. Could be wrong though.

If you have the drives I would go for two. Gives you some flexibility and room for growth. It suprising how quickly your collection can grow when you know you have space to store it...

From what I know there is no physical drive limitation, however the current version of NASLite does not allow for SATA type drives, just PATA (33 to 133mhz). I'm currently running a 250GB Maxtor o nan old PII class Mobo nd i've got no problems.

64MB of RAM is enough to get things done just fine.

IT will not run faster with more, I don't think there is read ahead caching.

The drive overlay software takes care of the old problems of large drives on old hardware not being seen.

I run a 200GB and a 300GB right now with a Gigabit card, It really hauls ass. The drives are far to slow. :D
