Hello hopsing
Two possible causes I could think of ... but there may be other issues.
1] Look at
http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/quick_specs/diamondmax_60_ultra_ata_100_quick_specs.pdf and make sure that your jumpers do
not include a CLJ (Cylinder Limitation Jumper) situation.
OR
2] The drive may have been at one time formatted to a limit of 30 (or 32) GB using special overlay software. Although I may be wrong ... but I am not convinced that NASLite can properly override this limitation when you use "configure drives". I would suggest you get a utility (even from the Maxtor site:
http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f6294198b091346068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Software%20Downloads/View%20By%20Category/Desktop%20Storage/DiamondMax%20Family/Diagnostics&downloadID=113) that allows you to do a low-level format of the drive (losing all data on it) before you put it back in the NASLite box. You can stop the format after about 3-5% progress, as that would have wiped-out any overlay software, but if you're willing to wait, just go thru 100% of it.
Funny how you also have an IBM drive with similar symptoms. Were both drives used in the same computer before ? Are they now both on the same IDE connector ? What is your motherboard manufacturer and model ?
And make sure you use an 80-wire cable (see above Maxtor website reference.)
