I have installed NAS Lite on an old Dell p133c that was laying around. Real easy to install, but I keep getting those beeps telling me the hard drive is having problems.

Does anyone know of a good hard drive repair disk?

The system was running Win98 prior to NAS lite seemed O.K. there.
Tried to boot a Knoppix diskette and got a error message about the RAM.

If you get beeps every few minutes it means the hard drive doesn't support SMART testing. Just means it's an older drive. Does the message you get basically say SMART testing not supported? If so, you can ignore it.

If you upgrade to one of the NASLite+ versions you can turn off SMART testing and end the beeping.

didn't seem to work :-(

I downloaded the NAS+ 1.X Suite only days ago so I hope that my software isn't out of date.

Another problem I can't seem to get the cdrom to work(when it starts the light is orange colored and then turns off). So I was using the diskettes that I made from the CD. I did'nt see all the options that the manule is showing.

Then I tried to to make a boot disk with mscdex.exe, config files and autoexec.bat to recognize my cdrom...no dice :-<

the CMOS... that didn't work
I wander if there is a bios upgrade I should be looking for?

Even tried a knoppix floppy disk...no dice

mabey if I cinfigure a bootloader or somethin... I don't know
I'll keep trying though

If you make a floppy from the CD and boot from that you are using the free version of NASLite and you won't get all the NASLite+ options. You would have to boot from CD or USB.

If you have another CD rom you could try changing it for the one in the NASLite box and see if it's a CD problem or not. Also check if your BIOS allows booting from CD.

In the NASLite+ forum I have a post with info on how to boot from a hard drive. You might take a look at that.
