I have been toying with the idea of setting-up some sort of server on my home network, based on the use of a redundant PC running some sort of Linux system.

What I would like would be to have:
1- a file server, to store a rapidly growing photo and music collection
2- an email server accessible by several users on different machines
3- a print server to run 3 printers (A B/W Laser, a general purpose color injet and a photo printer)
4- if possible, to act as a hardware firewall or DMZ device.

From what I have read, it should be possible to carry out (1) with NasLite+ but can it do any of the others?

I had almost decided to set up a Linux unit based on Samba, (to experiment with, knowing virtually nothing of Linux operations) before I came across NasLite, and now I wonder if that might be a better path to take.

Any suggestions on how I can achieve my requirements?

Thanks to all in advance for any (useful) comments.

OldGimmer,

Naslite has no email server, or print server and not possible to act as a firewall.

Naslite is not a total solution and was never intended to be, hence LITE.
V2 is being developed right now and is worth a look.

if you want a total linux solution i'd do a google search, this should bring up plenty of packages.

Thanks for the reply, which is more or less as I expected. Any idea what new features will have? Is there any more info on it anywhere?

OldGimmer,

There is no full info on what V2 will contain, But there are various posts with bits of info on various features that V2 will and may contain.
SATA support is offered being a nice addition. The developers are hard at work and I guess it wont be to long before a full listing of its features is posted. I am sure a quick seach of this forum will give you some ideas as to what will be included. But the product I am sure will still be a LITE version.
