Ok, I've got a recipe that will netboot naslite + ... I'm doing a little more testing before I release the steps. But essentially it uses the pxelinux /memdisk boot mechanisms and some free services.

But I ran into a catch. It boots; but it's always with the default settings (fairly obviously). In order to change the license key/ ip address etc and have it stick I need to use a floppy to save the configuration...

This somewhat defeatsthe point of a network boot. Is there a way to have it save to somewhere else? (say, write to the tftp server and leave the cfg file there ?)

Where would a cd based naslite normally save it's configuration?

Hi,

The CD version saves the cfg to floppy. But the usb version saves to the device its on so u may be able to use this. you could modify the kicker floppy so it boots the usb etc.

Hmm. how unfortunate. I really wanted to run with no usb/floppy.

Before I spend too much time on this; anyone know if the part where it writes to the floppy is accessible via scripts ?

That is; if I unpack the initrd image - edit some scripts and repack the image, whether I can redirect the cfg file somewhere?

I'm wondering if a crude hack to symlink /dev/fd0 to a tmp file and then have tftp copy to/from there might work around it.
