Hello folks,

I got a brandnew 2.5" Hitachi 7200rpm 60GB for my notebook :P
It IS a difference!

The old HD (4200rpm 40GB) is still good, so I thought it is perfect for the NAS, quiet, using less energy and maybe even faster than the old 3.5" 6GB maxtor which is in there now. I got an 2.5-3.5 hd-adaptor and connected it.

Problem: Nas can not configure it for storage, it says the same as what it says when you try to configure a nonexistant disk.
I had it on all 4 positions and I had it back in the notebook, yes, it is still ok, and I checked the adapter (all contacts fine, no shorts).

So what is going wrong? In the syslog the hd is recognized with name and everything. Can you please have a look and tell me what the warnings mean?

Thank you!

Nobody?

I tried once again. In the browser I see this:

Disk-3 Hardware
IC25N040ATCS04-0, ATA DISK drive
cs5530_set_xfer_mode(UDMA 2)
attached ide-disk driver.
host protected area => 1
78140160 sectors (40008 MB) w/1768KiB Cache, CHS=77520/16/63, UDMA(33)

NOTE: Disk-3 is installed and can be configured for use with NASLite-SMBG.

But configuration for storage fails as described before.

The Telnet log tells me this:

WARNING: All existing data on Disk-3 will be lost!

Continue: [y/n] > y
umount: /export/Disk-3: No such file or directory
/disc: No such file or directory

sfdisk: Fatal error: cannot find /disc
mke2fs 1.27 (8-Mar-2002)
Could not stat /part1 --- No such file or directory

The device apparently does not exist; did you specify it correctly?

After that I attached a 3.5, same port, same cable, and it´s configured instantly.

I am stuck now. Port, cable and Naslite are proofen allright, so why the 2.5 HD is not getting configured?
Is there a general problem between NasLite and notebook harddisks?

Solved.

I put it back into the notebook. With Partition Magic 8 I deleted the two fat32 partitions and mad one Linux Ext2 partition.

Back to the NAS. Status window tells again "can be configured"
And this time configuration worked, the drive is available now.

So what the heck was this?!? Not everybody has PartMan and can make the bed for the stubborn NASLite!
I thought it does not matter what is on the disc because you are going to flatten it anyway?
