NASLite Network Attached Storage

I have three drives in my nas box and thought I would see how fast it transfers from on hdd to another hdd in the same box. I would have thought it would have been very quick. So I dragged and dropped from one the other (windows is main pc) and low and behold when I look at the task manager my network utilisation is pegging 80+%. I would have thought it would have all happend inside the nas box but it seems that Im sucking it all the way our to my main pc and then back down to the nas box.

Does this seem odd or is that the way its supposed to do it?
