As subject I have an AMD K6 500 w/256mb RAM ready and waiting to install NASLITE+ on. Is this suitable hardware, I can't remember if it is newer than a 486DX or not!

Time to buy then. I only wish the pc was a bit quieter - I think I'll wrap it in an old carpet.

Put mine in the garage, cool and doesn't matter how noisy it is

Good idea. Mine is detached so not easy to get a network cable (and my Belkin Wirless card not supported).

The loft gets a bit hot in summer I think, but I could try it up there. I should have put the cable joiner up there so I could have broken in. Now I need another cable... :(

My NASlite box was originally in my loft, however I had problems earlier in the year when we had a really hot spell and my NASbox kept shutting down :( My garage is built in so it was easy to drop a cable down into it :D My NASbox, monitor and keyboard, sit nicely on top of the "beer" fridge right by the door 8) You don't need monitors and keyboards attached but they were spares and it's so much easier to see what the status is by just opening the door and switching on the monitor, then whilst I'm there I can open the fridge and get a beer
The only minor hitch with it been in the garage is dust, I take off the case sides and get the vacuum in there every couple of months or so.
Good luck with your NASbox I can't recommend it enough it really is the way forward for home networks, and makes media distribution so simple :)
