Recently I picked up some old computers dumped on the sidewalk, next to the curb, ready to be thrown into a garbage truck. From the first three I took working old AMD motherboards, memory and hard drives. The last one was in working order, without a hard drive.

After cleaning the box - dust inside a computer is so darn dirty, I assembled my new test box.

Ugly Old Case (Curb Side Orphan)
GigaByte GA 7VT880 F7 Socket A Motherboard (CSO)
AMD Sempron 2500+ (CSO)
New low noise Nexus AXP-3200 CPU cooler (cheap eBay catch)
New low noise/low speed case fans (local shop, the biggest investment: 24 Euro/33 USD)
1 GB Dimm Memory 400Mhz/128bit, Dual Channel (CSO)
Quantum Fireball EX6.4A 6GB IDE (Boot Drive) (CSO)
3Ware 8006-2LP RAID Controller (cheap catch earlier)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3120827AS 120GB 7200 RPM in RAID 0 (Two, from old workstations)
NVIDIA AGP Video (CSO)
SATA TSSTcorp CDDVD Writer (Desk Top Orphan)
I replaced the working PS with a newer Antec 430W TruePower Trio (DTO)

Added later: Intel Pro/1000 GT Network Interface Card (DTO) - switched off the on-board 100MBPS network interface in the BIOS.
Meaning that the hardware profile is changed, and therefore also a new UNLOCK code is needed.


Right now I am testing NASLite-M2, which eventually will be inside my brother's music box (he performs & composes).
If anyone feels like it, look at the System Message Log, in the next posting. There are some anomalies in the last section....

Nice Orphan Use ! (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle !)

Since "hda" is the old Quantum, and ( I assume ) purely the boot drive with no data on it, I would not worry too much about the "anomalies". But you might consider replacing it with a cheap HDD or CF-card boot drive.

I always used a vertical Transcend IDE module, but this time I will 'sustainably' use this FIREBALL until the Great Extinguisher ends its life.
