Bit of a flyer this one, but I find the NL forum the most able to sort esoteric problems!

Well, I can't yet get my TheGreenBow VPN remote Client to work with home ZyXel gateway (P661H-D1), but it probably will when I understand it better. SO... in the meantime, I am trying to use Microsoft VPN Client (in France) and their VPN Server (in UK). I get through easily enough, and can see my Shares and NL connections. However although I can 'Explore' the PC down to file level, I can not open anything. I get the msg. "Not enough Server Storage is available to process this command". Now looking around, this msg. seems to be confined to MS VPN users. MS suggest increasing the IRPStackSize value from default by 3 or more. Does anyone out there have experience of this problem and knowledge as to why the IRP might be the problem? Is there any reason why I should not set the StackSize to its max value (50 dec, 0x32 hex)? I am using the Server on XP Home. I did read that XP Pro is better and that Windows 7 "resolves some VPN difficulties". Any comments at all???? Thanks jeff

I got nothing for you on this one. I would use Smoothwall for my firewall and VPN server. It is open source and well supported. It is part of a very mature and secure product. Last, it is cheap, as in free, to the home user. Fast and easy to configure and the support forum is really great.

If you need a VPN and more, use BarracudaDrive, I use this SW since years and works perfect anytime. Is SSL VPN, so it is never blocked anywhere. http://barracudaserver.com/products/BarracudaDrive/ , you can also connect to NASlight, then you have also WebDav, and also Web frontend, all with SSL and User Accounts. It is worth the money. I am not affiliated with this guys....just want to say it works.

Thanks wolfgang! I'll look into those links. Do you think the IRPStack fault is peculiar to using the microsoft server / client, or is it just because I have too many processes running on the target PC (web-server, ftp-server)? As I said, I can 'see' my PC structure and files and NL but if I try opening anything, I get the message "insufficient memory". I am not in the uk currently so not able to make any changes there for a while.

Thanks again, jeffjohn

I do not know, but I would check if and what is using the memory and CPU at this time, what process is running, with http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96653.aspx is free SW, MS bought this guys some time ago. When you click one of the small diagrams, you get a second large display with more info. when you click in the large diagram on a spot in the diagram it will show what process is using CPU, Commit and I/O, so run this without VPN and then with VPN and compare what changes.
