My new box is not delivering. Apart from problems with the 3Ware 9690SA-8 card -I'll report about that later in a different posting, the installed NIC is not transporting data at 1000Mb/s, but at 100Mb/s. NASLite can see the 1000 Mb/s option:

# Jan 2 10:26:50 [2] Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - version 7.3.21-k3-NAPI
# Jan 2 10:26:50 [2] Copyright (c) 1999-2006 Intel Corporation.
# Jan 2 10:26:50 [2] e1000 0000:06:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
# Jan 2 10:26:50 [2] e1000: 0000:06:02.0: e1000_probe: (PCI:33MHz:32-bit) 00:1b:21:4e:10:ea
# Jan 2 10:26:51 [2] e1000: eth0: e1000_probe: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection

The box is connected with a CAT6 cable to a 3COM OfficeConnect Gigabit Switch 8. The PC I am typing on has an onboard Intel NIC, also connected to the switch and is working properly at 1000Mb/s.

What would be the reason for this malfunction?

To repeat myself: I am getting 100Mb/s, where it should have been tenfold.

Pieter ... Mike is trying to be helpful ... you have not yet answered the question or delivered more info for us to help you. WHERE (or HOW) does it say it is only delivering 100 ?

Didn't mean to be rude. I apologize if it seemed that way. Been busy with the box from early morning till midnight. Basically with the 9690SA-8I card. There seems no way to get a RAID-6 or even a RAID-0 of six 1TiB drives to get working with NL. Frustrating.

Anyway, this is from the HTML output:

Power cycle the switch for starters.

Try a different cable from the NL server to a different port on the switch.

Those are for starters. There is no reason for the thing to not be going to gigabit unless one of the wire pairs in the cable are broken or otherwise not making connection. You may have a bad port or connector on the card or the switch, this does happen with RJ45 jacks from time to time.

There are other things to try but lets eliminate these first.

By the say, you and some others may want to read my network do's and don'ts in the hardware section.http://serverelements.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2471

Thanks, Mike. That helped. As almost always, solutions are simple. Since the cable is new, and the problem already existed with another cable, I assumed it was the NIC itself. So I changed the card (I recently bought 3) and HURRAY! It works. 41.98 MB/s writing to a RAID-0 logical drive, 23.10 MB/s reading from the drive.

I'll try to change it back, and see if the problem can be recreated. Maybe it was not inserted well.
