I am testing a Asus CUV4X-C motherboard. It's OLD! Intel Celeron 533MHz processor; 256MB memory. I thought it wouldn't work very well, but it does! About 7.5 MB/sec measured with DiskWriggler.

I put in a FireWire PCI card.

In the syslog I read:
Dec 28 17:25:00 [1] ieee1394: Host added: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[00004c01070034c7]

Does this line mean that the card is recognized & functional? The FireWire Maxtor external drive didn't show up in NASLite's storage menu. After I changed the drive to USB it worked fine.

Pieter, I have not gotten a fire wire card to work with NASLite. Maybe Ralph has since he does all of his development of NASLite on the Apple Mac platform. Maybe I will pull out the FireWire card I have and give it a whirl.

The box is for my sympatico car mechanics. They are keeping my 19 yo Citroen BX on the road, and I am doing something in return by setting up their network. I couldn't get the (what appeared to be a Sweex with a NEC chipset) firewire card to work, so I ordered a Promise SATA300 TX 4302 (assuming that that card is supported by NL) with two eSATA ports and a Freecom Hard Drive Dock. Rsync will be very fast.

We'll have to take a look at that over the next few days. FW should work, but there were code changes since it was last tested. If it doesn't work out of the box, then there may well be a problem.
