Yes. That's what I tested it on a D945GCLF. I put the sticker Model under it. I just looked at it. It's the 1 core Atom with 10/100 Ethernet. The new one is a 2 core Atom with 10/100/1000 Ethernet and more USB ports. I guess it would take the same power. Right now I got Windows 7 on that one. Transfering files.

I seen they do have a 2 core Atom out with GPU on it too. So system-on-a-chip. But it says it's for hand helds and HD DVD players. Maybe they will put them in Mini-ITX boards. It says the GPU bulit in the same chip can do 2 HD videos at one time. I guess we my be seeing HD DVD players going lower in price soon. I think it's modle "CE4100" Maybe with a system like that for a NAS sever it only take like 10 to 15 Watts then, I guess.

I have been experimenting trying to reduce power consumption of my home nas server for a while now,

I Have the following :

Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H Motherboard
512MB Ram
i686 Intel Celeron CPU 2.80GHz Cpu
64MB Ati Graphics card
NETGEAR GA311 NIC

4 X Western Digital green power WDC WD10EADS-00L Sata II Drives
Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 400W Power Supply

I have Now got power consumtion down to 15W when idle and 22W when running

Originally i Had a 650W power suppply fitted and when i looked into it found that it wasn't required
and dropped the size to 400W (Fitting a Power factor Corrected power supply also helps).

I have also looked at power consumption of a pc running windoes xp pro Used as a file server
This was in the order of 300W !

Also at work we have a data cabinet with the following :
3 servers running, win xp, Naslite , Win server
a 3com 48 port switch and a few other little bits

The power consumption of this cabinet is around 860W !

Hope This helps

steve

That's EXTREMELY GOOD ! Not too much I could suggest to reduce power further, other than
a] disable all peripherals you don't need (even if not being used, leakage current adds to consumption): Serial, Parallel, USB, Audio, IDE (use SATA-only setting in BIOS if it's available);
b] remove the 64MB graphics card (run the NAS head-less).

And -- although it will increase power consumption -- although only minutely -- increase memory to 1GB or 2GB (2x512 or 2x1GB to preserve Dual-channel speeds). This will help during disk checks.

How are you booting ? Off HDD ?

If you are fanatical about reducing power consumption, you can either (without loss of performance) a] under-clock CPU (if BIOS allows) and/or b] use a less powerful cpu; and c] keep playing with more efficient PSUs. ***BUT*** I think you're already WAY down there ! Then again ... prove me wrong ! ;-)
