There's been alot of mention about NASLite moving to a Linux 2.6 kernel for better hardware support, below is a little video showing the new Core 3 OS booting using a Linux 2.6.28 kernel with full, on the fly module support.

This core OS will be part of NASLite-2 v2.6 and follow forward into NASLite v3.0. The entire Linux 2.6 enviroment weighs in at about 5.5 megs with all shipping kernel modules. I haven't done any benchmarks, but Tony and I feel pretty confident this is the fastest booting Linux 2.6 enviroment out there.

Questions and comments, wishes are welcome, no release dates are available.

The youtube video shows the ability to log in to a command prompt, rather than in to the customised shell menu. Is that an intended feature of Core 3 OS?

The reason that I ask is that both motherboards (MSI and Intel) that I've experimented with recently for my NAS do not not support automatic processor fan speed adjustment in the BIOS. Instead, they rely on Windows utilities to adjust the fan speed. Consequently, the fans run at full belt and they are rather noisy. I've just ordered a SilenX Ixtrema Pro 8dBA fan to replace the AMD stock fan on the Athlon processor heatsink on the MSI motherboard, and that might help. Ideally, I'd like to be able to control the fan automatically since the motherboard does have the necessary sensors.

What's the prospect for being able to do this with Core 3 OS?

To early to tell at this point. 2.6 Kernel does have some fan control from what i recall.

Nice video!

I can see you did a uname -a command and it says 2.6.28. It seems like you all ways behind on that from a Ubuntu server I have it I do uname -a. It says 2.6.27-9 but I did a apt-get dist-upgrade and it only upgreaded it to 2.6.27-11

If you get this one working it should work with a lot of new motherboards very good. Thank you. Looking forword to it.
