The 7500-8 served me well, as did the LSI Megaraid i4 (Also sold by Dell).

this is cut/pasted from the hardware reference guide. is there something to not like about this brand/model or is the other one just alot better??
I dont really know that much about raid technology. My Company has always bought servers with raid already in place so I havent really got the chance to mess with them.
I just know that the tx2000 is in the list and I have had good luck with there ultra66 IDE controllers in the past as far as being stable and not needing any setup.

Promise PDC20268 and Newer IDE Driver
- 20269
- 20275
- PDC20268 (Ultra100 TX2)
- PDC20270 (FastTrak100 LP/TX2/TX4)
- PDC20271 (FastTrak TX2000)
- PDC20277 (SBFastTrak133 Lite)

The extract you have taken from the Hardware Reference Guide is in the list of supported IDE controllers no the list of Hardware RAID Controller Devices therefore the best that you can hope for is that NASLite will see the individual drives attached to such a card however will not support any RAID functionality on it.

OK I am Dumb the tx2000 is only an IDE controller card it looks like and doesnt do Raid.
I did find a Brand new 3ware 7006-2 PCI Raid card for 129.99 which is work the money for some peace of mind.
Would you guys mind taking a look at these specs and tell me what you think as far as speed and concurrent users??I am hoping for 100 concurrent users and if you can think of anything else I might need to complete the project.

SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S223Q - OEM
Intel PWLA8391GT 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter - OEM
Crucial 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model RM12864AA800 - Retail
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E7200 - Retail
Athena Power RM-3U349B48 3U Rackmount Server Case - Retail
3ware 7006-2 PCI 2.2 compliant 32-bit/66MHz bus master IDE RAID Card - Retail
GIGABYTE GA-EG31M-S2 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

I got my 7500-8 from eBay - reputable seller (>1000 feedback, >99% positive) - for about that price. You'll probably rue the choice of a 2-port card fairly quickly. 500GB is not a lot for 100 users. My LSI card was even less.

This card has 2 IDE so I can put a total of 4 drives on it right?? can I mirror 2 500s and then stripe them with another 2 to make one 1tb volume?? do you think speed will be an issue with this at all with that many users??

so does that mean you can only put one drive on each IDE port? because it has 2 ports and you can normally put 2 drives on a cable.

The LSI MegaRAID i4 card I have has 4 ports and can attach 2 drives per port for a total of 8 drives.

The 3Ware 7500-8 card has 8 ports and can attach 1 drive per port for a total of 8 drives.

The spec is on the 3Ware website.

The LSI MegaRAID i4 card is a good choice if looking for a cheap, fast, reliable RAID engine. Wish I were home, I have a few of them for sale, flashed to the latest firmware level and tested for $30.00 each.
