Just bought this on Ebay. Image I think this should hold me for the time being. This is a really cool box. It supports up to 12 SAS/SATAII drives, it comes with a SAS/SATAII hardware RAID controller with 1GB of DDR2 cache RAM and battery backup of the cache. I bought a second controller from the same vendor so I will have a backup or it will allow me to export the array with a second server on the 2Gb/sec FC-AL network I have. Best part is that the unit cost less than $500.00 for both! I should be able to expand this to a total of 11TB in this chassis. with the option to add three more JBODs to the array controller I could get up to 44TB of storage. These are made by Xyratex and are sold as the RS-1220-E3-5402E. A hell of a find. There are still a couple left as far as I know if anyone is interested, just do a search for Gateway and SAS and they should come up.

Mike

The joys of ebay!! Well done - unfortunately, I have nowhere to stow the 19" Rack required.

Hmmm.... Maybe I could put the rack in my loft and put the patch panel I want to get into it as well as my 3Com switch with 4 fibre ports....
