I'm considering getting an eSATA drive for backup purposes, just want to make sure NASLite can detect it :D I'm specifically considering the WESTERN DIGITAL MYBOOK2 HOME EDITION 750GB. Anyone using one of these or any other eSATA drive?

The latest versions of NL do support external USB drives, performance will be a bit down from a installed drive though.

The drive has USB/FW/eSATA interfaces but obviously eSATA is the way I want to go. If NL does not yet support eSATA-devices, any chance of this being introduced in future versions?

I believe eSATA connector is just an external SATA interface of the on board controller and as such you should have no problem using the drive.

Ahh I was under the impression it was a different controller altogether, thanks for clarifying :) Looks like Marvell 88SE614x is not supported yet, oh well.

As an aside, if you have a SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) controller that is recognized by NASLite you can use it to interface to both SAS and or SATA drives. The physical interface is the same as are all the timings, only the protocols are different. A SATA interface will NOT interface to a SAS drive though.

eSATA interface is simply a SATA connector with a retention clip facility added on the external connector, some motherboards are now coming with eSATA connections on the rear panel of the MB.
