Howdy, I picked up 2 MAXTOR 500GB PATA drives that I would like to build my NAS box with. Does anyone have a recomendation for which RAID 1 controller to use? One that is fairly inexpensive or could be picked up on ebay.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to this project!!!!

Thought about going just with 2 drives and making one the mirror but would rather try to do it via RAID 1.

If cost is an issue (doh!) you might want to reconsider buying a dedicated hardware raid card for a raid1 solution. NASLite does not support the inexpensive cards (not true hardware raid), see the hardware reference guide for more info.

Yes, I understand that it needs to be true Hardware raid and it will need to be on the supported list. I was just wondering if anyone could make a good recomendation on one they have found that works well and is inexpensive?

Thanks in advance!!!

Here is a low-cost card but after scouring through the list I'm not sure if it is supported or not:

$55.99 is not bad cost wise.

The very same card you list is currently at $9.99 here:

Not sure about compability on that one, Tony / Ralph?

Superboss thanks for the reply. I also found on ebay several LSI MegaRAID 511 i4 controllers for $59.00

Any comments on that one? It is on the list.

I've used both (I still have the LSI MegaRAID i4 511) and I would favour the 3Ware 75?? card, but only on speed. I did not have any problems with either of them at all.

If you do get an LSI MegaRAID i4 and it doesn't "see" anything bigger than 137GB (128GiB) - don't worry - I successfully flashed the firmware on mine and it fixed the problem - 2 x 250GB drives hanging off it in full RAID1 splendour!
