currently running naslite usb on an old p3 system with 512 memory, addin pci sata card - with a selection of harddrives

have a p4 system that is sat doing nothing - 1.5gig memory - sata and nic on board

am happy with the p3 system and it seems to work fine - is there any advantage in rebuilding into the p4

Apparently the forthcoming v2.06 will be able to address up to 4GB of RAM, so there's one reason......

but [maybe a daft question] what good is that - - obviously it is good - does more memory equal more speed or some other reason

More buffering for smaller (< memory size) files. If I run diskwriggler and select a number of frames which will not fill the RAM buffers then my write speed to the server is much quicker than if the file(s) to be written exceed the RAM size on the server.
