HI all.
Several months ago i decided to build my own NAS using NASLite.
Since then, i have purchased 2 x Adaptec 2610SA raid cards.
The problem i am having, is that since i have installed them, the PC always hangs at boot up 100% of the time. In order to get it to boot up, i turn it on and after 15 - 20 seconds, i have to hit the reset button. It is almost as if all the hard drives have to reach their full spin speed.
Does this make sense ?
I have 2 RAID5 configurations setup. One is using 6 x 400gig SATA drives and the other is using 6 x 300gig SATA drives.
I have tried on 3 separate motherboards now, and they all suffer from the same problem. I am also using a 600Watt quality power supply which should be ample power.

Any help on this will be helpful.

Thank you.

It sounds like your PSU is not able to supply adequate current to satisfy the surge current required by all 12 HDD's on spin-up. Try removing drives (unplug power) until you get a satisfactory cold boot - just to see how many drives your PSU can actually cope with.

Thanks for the reply NickC. I think you are right because i thought i had a 600watt PSU, but infact turned out to be a 450watt.

Ok.
***UPDATE***

Turns out the problem was infact the power supply. 450Watts is just no enough for 14 ( not 12 ) hard drives.
What i have done is add a second power supply. Much better now. Boots up first time, every time.

cheers.
