I got an Adaptec 2610SA card today from the States. It has "Adaptec 2610SA" printed on the PCB and a "-A" sticker beside the "2610SA" text. When I booted NASLite-2 USB v2.04 after configuring 1 x 250GB Volume and 1 x 900GB R0 (3 x 300GB), I get :

Code:
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: Loading Adaptec I2O RAID: Version 2.4 Build 5
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: Detecting Adaptec I2O RAID controllers.
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: Red Hat/Adaptec aacraid driver (1.1-3 Aug 15 2006 01:22:52)
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.warn kernel: scsi: Detection failed (no card)
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.notice kernel: megaraid: v2.10.10.1 (Release Date: Thu Jan 27 16:19:44 EDT 2005)
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.notice kernel: megaraid: found 0x101e:0x1960:bus 2:slot 9:func 0
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.notice kernel: scsi1:Found MegaRAID controller at 0xf8829000, IRQ:9
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.notice kernel: 01] detected 1 logical drives.
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.notice kernel: megaraid: supports extended CDBs.
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: megaraid: channel[0] is raid.
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: megaraid: channel[1] is raid.
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: megaraid: channel[2] is raid.
# Mar 5 22:11:32 user.info kernel: megaraid: channel[3] is raid.

It seems to skip over the 2610SA and get on with configuring itself for the LSI MegaRAID - the latter working perfectly.

Any advice, etc, will be extremely well received.

NickC.

The 2610SA is made for several vendors, DELL, HP, etc. and after some research I have found they all do not work with NASLite. Seems only the DELLs work. Tony suggested in one thread that it may be a PCI ID issue, however, no solution has been offered. I am still holding on to my 2610SA in hopes of a solution. Seems there is enough interest in this card that maybe Tony or Ralph can look into it.

I sincerely hope that other VID / PID combinations for this card could be associated with the requisite driver.

I am most annoyed because the eBay auction I bought it from advertised as a Dell part.

Been discussing this problem with a colleague - I may have a plan.

The thread in the NASLite-2 USB forum has a startup log containing the following:

Code:
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: Loading Adaptec I2O RAID: Version 2.4 Build 5
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: Detecting Adaptec I2O RAID controllers.
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: Red Hat/Adaptec aacraid driver (1.1-3 Aug 15 2006 01:22:52)
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: AAC0: kernel 4.1.4 build 7403
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: AAC0: monitor 4.1.4 build 7403
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: AAC0: bios 4.1.0 build 7403
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: AAC0: serial c33116fafaf001
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.info kernel: scsi1 : aacraid
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.warn kernel: Vendor: DELL Model: TeraArray_SATA Rev: V1.0
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.warn kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Jan 23 01:39:18 user.warn kernel: scsi: Detection failed (no card)

As this card has kernel / monitor / BIOS all at build 7403, I think that this *may* point to a possible solution as my kernel etc are build 7348 (I think). I have downloaded 7401, 7403, 7406 and 7417 and will flash the card with 7417 tonight. Hopefully this might permit the card to be "seen" by NASLite-2. Fingers crossed!

It turns out that my card is an HP variant - PCI ID: 9005:0285:103C:3227 rather than PCI ID 9005:0285:1028:0291 for the Dell variant. Now, how can I change 4 bytes in the Kernel to accept the HP card instead of the Dell?

I'm in same boat. I even tried to flash my HP card with the DELL BIOS and it wont except it. There are newer versions of the aacraid driver as well which may allow different card versions.

Contacted ServerElements about this and it appears that aacraid is due for an update in Kernel 2.4.35 - hopefully we will be able to use this card in NASLite-2 v2.05.......

Well now, those very nice people at ServerElements have compiled a patched version of the kernel which includes my card, currently in Beta-test :) -

Code:
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: Loading Adaptec I2O RAID: Version 2.4 Build 5
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: Detecting Adaptec I2O RAID controllers.
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: Red Hat/Adaptec aacraid driver (1.1-3 Mar 13 2007 22:31:52)
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: AAC0: kernel 4.2.4 build 7368
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: AAC0: monitor 4.2.4 build 7368
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: AAC0: bios 4.2.0 build 7368
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: AAC0: serial c29b51fafaf001
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.info kernel: scsi0 : aacraid
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.warn kernel: or: HP Model: 900-R0 Rev: V1.0
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.warn kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.warn kernel: spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ15.
Mar 14 22:56:38 user.warn kernel: scsi: Detection failed (no card)

As you can see it is recognised (my RAID0 is named 900-R0) and has been formatted and exported without any problems at all.

Hehe

Talking about killing 2 birds with 1 stone
You got a working raidcard
ServerElements has the confirmation that this card is working and can be added to the supported hardware list

Life can be good sometimes

I volunteered my services to beta test a revised kernel if it could be made available, on a "if it trashes data it's my own stupid fault" basis :) . I take my hat off to Tony for making the effort to not only produce a revised kernel, but to subsequently debug and recompile the final working version within hours of being notified of the bug.

Currently in the process of populating the drive and will probably set up my 2x250GB SATA as a RAID1 on the same card. Well pleased.

Does this mean the HP version card will be supported on the 2.05 version?

I have this card - got it on ebay and thought all 2610SA card will work. Was about to buy 6 HD today to use it.

Luckily I saw your post... seems like I gonna have to wait for 2.04 now.. :-(

Does anybody know what is the maximum capacity the 2610 can handle?

Will it work with one 3Tb array?

Mine is an HP card, so I would be very surprised if v2.05 was not compatible with the HP variant (Bearcat) of the Adaptec 2610SA.

I believe the card can handle an array of up to 2TB. Theoretically, you could create this with 2 x (3 x 500GB - RAID5) in RAID0 or 5 x 500GB in RAID5, or simply 4 x 500GB in RAID0 or spanned.

Well worth waiting for compatibility. The card has worked flawlessly in NASLite-2 since I installed the revised kernel.

I am standing by to test with the 16 port Adaptec 21610SA version.

From my discussion with Ralph on PCI ID association with the aacraid driver:

Code:
{ 0x9005, 0x0285, 0x9005, 0x0293, aac_rx_init, "aacraid",  "ADAPTEC ", "AAR-21610SA SATA ", 2 },                /* AAR-21610SA PCI SATA 16ch (Corsair-16)

So, your card should already be compatible with NASLite. OR, if it's not recognised, it may just be a comparatively simple exercise for Tony to add your (presumably different if it's not recognised) PCI ID against the aacraid driver.
