I am looking for a cheap Raid 5 card. I came across this one by promise but I am not sure if it is supported:

If it isn't can anyone recommend a cheap Raid 5 card that NASLite supports?

that card is not in the supported cards list. Check this http://www.serverelements.com/file.php?dl=NASLite-2-Reference.pdf

ebay is a good source. Ijust picked up a lightly used 3ware for $120. I also saw some new LSI's for about $130-$150. :D

Thanks for the tip.

Any specific models best, or just follow the guide.

From previous post, it seems that the 3ware 9500 series is not yet supported in NASlite V2. I thought the 7000/8000 series was the latest suported.

Has anything changed?

ALucas - you are correct...but the list is for known supported hardware. From what I have been reading the 9500s is "true hardware RAID" which is what NASLite requires and it also meets the software requirements. This being said, I realize there is no garantee that it will work. However I believe that with the 7xxx and the 8xxx series (all models) the odds are in my favor that it will work. I will definately post my findings when my build is complete to confirm this one way or the other.

{edit} Here is some info you may find usefulhttp://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html#3ware

also from the 3ware site:

Linux 2.4 and 2.6 driver source available to compile a driver for other Linux distributions
Linux 2.6.8 kernel or greater includes a driver for the 9500S series controllers

 After a quick chat with Ralph I understand NASLite - 2 a little better. The 9500s is not supported. The 9500s is supported by Linux 2.4. Sorry I was a little confused - My Bad.

I did just order a LSI MegaRAID SATA 150-6 on ebay for $149.00 - This one is supported

We live and we learn - Anyone have a need for a 3Ware 9500s-4lp? I'll give a good deal!

Rammer, I sincerely apologize for suggesting the 9500  I obviously knew the LSI boards worked as I used one myself but I was under the impression that the 9500 was indeed supported although the fact is they are not. Again, so sorry for giving you false facts.
