Turns out I WAS wrong

You have two options:

1. Use a floppy kicker too boot from using the USB version still (once the floppy has booted you run NASLite from the USB memory). This is how I do it.

2. Buy the CD version and have it boot from CD.

Here is how the box is configured... I have:

Externally accessible
two 5.25-inch bays
two 3.5-inch bays

Internally accessible
two bays for 1-inch–high IDE hard drives

The system currently has 2 CD drives and a floppy - I would like to somehow mount the 4 HDDs in the two 5.25" bays (suggestions). I could leave the floppy for booting the USB or if I understand you install a cf reader and boot from that?

CCD version config,

1 CD Rom Drive in the 5.25 bay
1 HD in either a caddy or Drive brackets 5.25 to 3.5 in the 5.25 bay
1 floppy to save the naslite config in the 3.5 bay
1 HD in the 3.5 bay directly below the floppy
2 x HD in the other two 3.5 bays

USB version config.

The usb or CF card prepared out side of the server. so a CD rom would not be needed in the server.

2 HD's in the 5.25 bays in caddies or With HD brackets.
1 floppy drive may be needed to boot the server if not a HD can go here
1 HD in the bay below the floppy
2 HD's in the other internall 3.5 bays

if using a CF reader then this would take place of the floppy, BUT if u needed a kicker then u would have to remove one HD so that you could have a CF reader and floppy to boot the server. Confused you even more now...?

if you want the min of hassle then the CDD may be for you as you dont have to worry about the system booting from usb etc.

:?: The Stock dell PS has only 1 SATA connector. Can this be modified or should I just get a new PS?

The stock PS is only 250w and I have found a Dell OEM replacement from Startech for about $60 that has 4 SATA connectors.

What do you think?
