After feeling the urge for more speed and since all my network interface cards were 1000BT I thought it would have been a simple matter by just replacing my existing 100BT switch.
I got one of these 3com switches

plugged everything in and saw that most devices went active except:
- my NASlite server which has a Netgear GA311 card did not connect at all. There was no link to the switch. There is no network connectivity whatsoever. Using other cables did nothing. After reverting back to the old 100Mbit switch the NIC connected without problems!
- My WinXP HTPC with an ASUS P4P800E Deluxe mobo with builtin marvell Gigabit NIC only connected at 100Mbit. This could be a cable issue.
My first thoughts are cabling which has is currently Cat5e.
The cable from the switch to the NASlite server is about 4feet long and the cable from the HTPC to the switch about 80feet long.
My primary concern is the NASlite server, which I cannot figure out at all how to troubleshoot. I conected a monitor to it, rebooted and everything seems normal.
I am out of ideas and I would appreciate any advice on how to go about getting things to work....
