I've got an old Compaq (1999 vintage) that I'm pretty sure won't boot off the USB port. It's a small case so I'd rather not have to use the CD and floppy. Prefer to use the room for hard drives don't you know.

How can I test if it will, in fact, boot off a USB drive?

Assuming a USB boot doesn't work, how can I test if using a kicker floppy will find and boot something on the USB?

Thanks gaiden. The iomega kicker booted and apparently found the USB drive with no problem. From the output it was able to install 1 logical drive and was looking for something on
root=/dev/ram0 rw

So I think I'm good to go.

azjerry, thats it. if you had the OS installed on a usb device it would have uncompressed it and booted up. There is a CD image of that driver if you want to boot from the CD rom..

Decision, decisions. I only have space for 4 disks. One currently has the CD drive and one has the floppy. One or the other has to go.

OTOH if I wait for the HD version, both can go......

:lol:

azjerry, if you go for the CD version of naslite you will still need the floppy to save the config to, But with the usb it will save the config to the usb device itself, but to use the kicker u need the floppy drive..

is your concern that your usb pen wont boot naslite? the kicker sees it so at least you halfway there.....
