I'm looking to re-use one of my ‘old PCs’ to host a Naslite NAS server.

The machine is spec is as follows:-

Motherboard: TMC T15VG+ purchased in 1998 (still working fine)
CPU AMD K6 2 500MHz
Memory: 384 meg
OS: Windows 98 SE

I recently purchased a larger (250GB) disk, but even after several attempts at formatting the disk, the largest volume size I could ever get the machine to recognise the disk was 127 GB (I've also confirmed it will not hold any more data than 127 GB).

I’m no expert, but I was wondering if the Motherboard/BIOS was the limiting factor?

My question to the forum is as follows:-

If I was to purchase a separate PCI IDE Disk controller card; would the card (I guess it would also depend upon the card type?) recognise the full disk size and allow me to use its’ maximum capacity?

Or perhaps someone has come across this problem before and can offer a solution?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Steve

NASLite has it's own BIOS for the drives built in, set the drive to none or not installed in the BIOS and NAS will see it and use it's own BIOS to map the drive to it's full capacity. The computer will work just fine that you have.

Thanks, that sounds like a really useful feature. I'll be giving this a try in the near future.
