NASLite Network Attached Storage

Hi

I can't seem to detect my logical drive in naslite2
what I've done so far:

CTRL-M in the config menu (actually used ctrl-h and then selected ctrl-m)
configure / new configuration / proceed: yes
selected my 3 drives (masters on chanel 0,1,2) with SPACE
Enter, F10
got : select configurable array
selected span-1 with space
F10 to configure, set raid 5, ACCEPT
Save configuration: YES
Initialize / logical drive 0 / Yes
exited and rebooted

now naslite2 boots fine
I go into the storage config menu (option3)
there I only see disk-0 (my CF card on IDE-0)

there should be a SCSI disk-1 (the raid card) but nothing

what did I do wrong?

I had a look at the Ctrl-M menu system and couldn't find anything obvious that I did that you didn't.

Have you tried deleting the logical drive and recreating it?

Several times

The strange thing is:
at reboot I get:
1 logical volume found
1 Logical volume handled by bios

So I guess that's ok

You may have to wait for a few hours(depending on how fast the card is and how big your drives are) for the RAID card to create the array before the drive is available to NASlite as a logical drive.

For example, when I built a RAID 5 array on an adaptec 2400a with 4x300Gb disks(900Gb), the process took about 4.5 hours.

A raid 5 array using 8x300Gb on a 3ware 7500-8 took about 2hours.

All the while I remained in BIOS waiting for the process to finish before booting up NASlite.

I removed the logical drive and created a small (1 GB) one

booted into naslite2, waited for half an hour and rebooted
still no scsi drive visible

In the sys log I got this:

So if I see it correctly, the card is recognised but then .......

Which seems on first inspection to be similar. I would suggest in the first instance trying to create a RAID-1 logical drive. Which firmware are you using? I found mine using http://www.lsilogic.com/obsolete/megara ... &locale=EN

I got that firmware a couple of days ago, when scouting for manuals and such
but didn't flash it yet
I'm a little afraid to, what if it's wrong and I can't flash back
(don't have the original firmware)

I guess my card is a Dell card
When I enter the webbios (CTRL-H) to get to the raidmanager I see a little Dell-logo in the right top
CTRL-M doesn't work on my mobo (something with interupt 19) but I can get there with a little detour (ctrl-h and then I get a button ctrl-m which leeds me to the manager)

perhaps I should bite the bullet and flash it

Are there any jumpers on your board?
J2, J3 and J13 are all open on mine

All the jumpers are open on my card. Top right of Ctrl-H screen, WebBios v1.53 incidently, is LSILOGIC. My card has a 9K646 sticker on the outside of the bracket - indicating a Dell partnumber.

I was a bit twitchy about flashing as well, but I basically got to the point where I would do it now, or never do it - I did it and got >137GB compatibility.

Woohooooooo succes at last

I did flash it with the LSI Firmware
worked like a charme

Created a Raid5 volume with 3x400GB Samsungs, got a logical volume of 730 GB
And I found I got 1 defective harddisk (my format in naslite2 kept going wrong, after systematicly changing disks I found the culprit)

That firmware really did the trick
