Hi everyone.
I am having problems setting up my NASLITE box.. i have been at it for 2 days and am getting nowhere..

Firstly, here are my specs :
AMD Sempron 2800
256mb DDR333
Abit KV8 Pro m/board
MX4000 video
1 Gbit network card realtek8169 chip
2 x Rocketraid 1640 SATA raid cards 4 channel

I have managed to create a raid 5 array using 4 x 400Gig SATA drives within the raid card bios, but when i start NasLite, it only sees 4 individual drives.

What am i doing wrong ? am i missing something ?

I don't want to format anythying just yet because it took me 12hrs to build the array, and i don't want to destroy and have to start again.

thank you.

What version of NasLite are you using? If version 1.x or below, I don't believe it supports RAID of any kind. If I'm not mistaken the new version 2.x does support hardware RAID!

Hope this helps,

John

Looks like your raid card is not supported for raid features:

Hiya,

Unfortunately Superboss is right. The cards you have are fakeRAID (software based RAID).

This will explain for you.
http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html#highpoint

The only thing I can reccomend is trying to sell the cards on eBay and try to get some money back for them to buy other cards with the functionality you require. Me personally would recommend the 3ware and adaptec cards, but again some of the adaptec cards are software RAID (1420sa for example).

If you are looking for a card and want to know which are hardware / software based cards, then look at this website. http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html

All the best!!

Phill
