Running NASLite+ with files from the CD copied to a USB flash drive. Booting to kicker/config floppies.

Performance:
About 9.7 MB/s read, 11.1 MB/s write
(Transferred a 775 MB .wav file to/from NASLite+ using FileZilla as a quick/dirty test through a Linksys 10/100 switch)

How are you guys able to get NASLite to run on such low memory requirements?

You likely have a bad SIMM/DIMM memory module.

Try removing all but one and booting, if it boots try the next. If it doesn't then you found your bad memory. Also just try reseating the memory.

I can typically get 20-25% utilization over the gigabit network though a newtork share. FTP maxes out at a little over 33MB/sec. I am very pleased with these numbers.

Running 6+MB/s read & writes with my fastest box (AthlonXP 2400, Asus A7N8x-e w/Gigabit LAN ), about 2.8MB/s with a 733MHz PIII desktop 10/100 NIC, about 2.6+MB/s with Dell Precision M70 (wireless-G, 54Mb/s). Numbers represent MAX speeds, with MIN speeds about .8MB/s lower.

Performance
35.40MB per second roughly 10x faster than the old 100Meg setup, played a HD-DVD rip over the network without any issues at all - no more copying files to the media pc before playing anymore
Drive Temperature
Moved into the loftspace, and since I'm in england, I get the following temps:
Disk-0 TEMP 18°C
Disk-1 TEMP 18°C
Disk-2 TEMP 19°C
Disk-3 TEMP 13°C
Hopefully, summer won't cook them, but I will be keeping a close eye on the temperatures if we ever get any sunshine!

Beats the 500G WD Netcenter which proved to be non-upgradeable, I'd planned on adding extra storage with the USB ports on the WD, but files I'd copied onto it and verified using killcopy just disappeared, so that was a bust.

Just waiting for my gigabit ethernet cards to turn up and then I will do another performance test!!!

I have the choice between the 3 systems below for a new NAS.
What would you recommend in terms of performance AND (!) power consumption?
The currently existing 3 PC in my home network have gigabit NICs, CAT5E or CAT6, the 10/100 3COM switch will be replaced in the future...
