Hello All;

My Sony VAIO 800mgz which I use for NASLite has had an error message for months:

Hardware Monitor found an error. Enter Power setuo menu for details.

It has Award v6 rev 1002.

I checked with a PostCard and the BIOS code is 42; in the Award BIOS codes it says that means, Initialize Hard Drive and Controler...

Does that mean that is the boot sequence in which the NASLite is overriding the BIOS?

How can I get it to boot automatically without pressing F2 to complete?

Thanks
HM

Hello HM:

Check to see if there's a "HALT ON ALL ERRORS" type of option in the BIOS. Or sometimes it says "Halt on all errors, except ...". Try a different setting; that may allow it to boot without the F2.

Thanks George, I think you might be right yet I had looked for that and then looked again after reading your post to see if I just did not see that switch in the BIOS settings. Apparently, this mobo does not have that option.

Hello HM:

Ok .. if there is no such option in BIOS ... let's try clearing CMOS. Two ways to do this: a] by moving a jumper on the motherboard, or b] disconnect power cord from PC and remove button-cell battery for at least 20 or 30 minutes. Option a] is only recommended if you have documentation where and how to move the jumper.

What exact Vaio model do you have ? Have you tried looking at Sony Support site ? Try http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=FAQ. Knowledgebase Article C86502 may not apply to your model, but looks related.

Maybe I should change the battery anyway since it is more than five years old?

Hello HM:

If clearing CMOS per option b] in my previous post does not work, you would want to replace that 5 year old battery as a next step anyway. So ... sure ... get a new battery. It's unclear at this point whether an old or weak battery might cause the first symptom you experienced.
