Hello all :-)

I got a 160GB HD and the SMART test is taking more than 1 hour to complete. I doubt that is normal?

Before that test hasnt completed my write performance is extremely slow while read is just fine (or was it the opposite? i mix that mostly up, sorry).
After that I got like 7mbs 11mbs.

If you've had an improper shutdown NASlite does more than just a SMART test it tests the file system as well, I have a 400GB and a 300Gb drive in my NASlite and it can take 3 hours before it's up and running properly, switch it on and let it do its stuff  go watch a movie or something and when you get back it'll have run all the diagnostics and be ready. 8) I think NASlite also runs the file system check after a number of normal shutdowns, I can't remember how many though

thanks for the reply

I shut it down using telnet and command 8 shutdown. i think thats the proper way. of course i could go watch a movie or walk the dog :-)

but i dont like to let it run over night when im doing nothing. its just consuming power and where I live that costs quite a lot :-) this means i prefer it to shut down and boot it when i need it. having to wait 1+ hour is bit daft tho just to be able to use it...

my suggestion is: what if NASlite would do all that smart test when you shut it down and then turn off automatically? this way it wouldnt have to do it when starting up cause it made sure that it turned off while everything was allright.

or at least make it usable even if running the smart test. dunno how its for other ppl but for me its not usable. performance is like 300 kb/s...
