I'm currently using NAS+ USB Flash with good results. However, at some point I will probably need to be able to set access controls on files and folders. If I build a Linux machine (Fedora 4), will I be able to unplug the drives from the NAS box and move them to the Linux box without reformatting? Please advise. Thanks.

I think the short answer is yes. Thats the beauty of the thing. Could be wrong thouhg. I search of the forums would likely turn up this topic to give a clearer understanding.

I think you will find the drives are formatted in EXT2, therfore your linux box _should_ be able to use the data.

It might become a little murky if you start hacking permissions and stuff. Then again, only one way to find out (besides asking the Furum)

</drawing on dark and distany memory?

i run a windows xp machine
my nas has removable drive bays and so does my windows xp machine
I like to store dvd movies on my nas but to slow to do network transfer,
so i downloaded a ext2 reader for windows and now i take drive out of nas put it into windows machine fill it with movies the put it back into nas
machine
reboot and it takes a bit but everything works fine
this way i can put 3 movies at a time on the drive without slowing down the network, so i can stream later.

hope this helps
