Has anyone had any luck with alternatives to the Kicker disk? On my system, using the disk supplied with NASLite+, the flash drive is recognized correctly but the system still does not boot. I have tried two different flash drives and every BIOS setting that I can find. Thanks for any suggestions.

Success at last!

Thank you very much, Eden. This kicker did the trick. Using the one supplied with NASLite+, I was getting a "Read Error" message while it was trying to decompress the kernel.

Tony, may I suggest that you add this kicker to the CD image for the next release?

Hi cbdudley,

Are you sure it was a kicker problem? Anyway I am happy that you are up and running. which one did you use as there were two versions in the archive?

The one I am currently using is the Iomega. I have not tried the other one yet, but I will test it later today and let you know. Thanks again.

When I execute the exe to write the program to floppy I am getting cyclic redundancy errors? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

The NASLite for USB disk finds and writes the files to my Lexar 512 Jumpdrive, but the kicker supplied with it can't find the jumpdrive on boot!

Thanks,

JSykes

Hi Eden,

I tried the other alternative kicker (Novac) and it works as well.

Here's a real mystery for you. Now that I have configured NASLite+ using the flash drive, the original kicker disk (supplied on the Server Elements CD) now works as well! I had already tried it a number of times before with no luck. I don't know what this means, but I am up and running. I wish the kicker disk was not necessary, but I can live with it.

Thanks again for your help with this.

I did some further testing yesterday. The Iomega and Novac kickers work reliably, however the original kicker is still finicky. I will do some testing with the command line options to see if that makes a difference. The motherboard is an Asus TX97 with USB 1.1, and the flash drive is an Imation USB 2.0 device.

I have tested the archive and all is well there, I'd try another floppy disk.

Did you manage to get the Lexar booted?

Did you find the original kicker unreliable? what sort of problem did you encounter.

Finally got it to boot The Lexar 512 Jumpdrive! Must have had a bad diskette! I had to use the Iomega drivers to get it! Thanks edeng!!!!

I am running this USB version on a MaxAttach 4100 I bought off Ebay.

Sorry Mr. Gates, don't need Win2000 server! LOL

Thanks again, edeng for all your help.

Hi -

I started a new thread about this, but then I thought a reply here might be more appropriate.

The above link is not working...anyone know where I can get the alternative kickers?

Thanks a lot,
Zach
