UPS = uninterruptible power supply.

I am building out a 4 x 250gb machine and wanted to know if it is recommended that I put a UPS on this machine.

Would a UPS make for more graceful shutdowns in a power failure/ storm? How could it restart once power is restored?

A UPS would help if you are there to shut down the computer. Currently NASLite+ doesn't have the ability to shut itself down with a signal from the UPS, it's all manual.

Same thing with starting up after a power outage, you'll have to restart the computer manually.

I have mine on a UPS to protect the computer from power glitches and short power outages. With short power glitches you have the probability of loosing or corrupting data. If your 1TB of data is important, you should protect it.

I've just put my NAS box on a UPS, paid a fortune for a new consumer unit and the RCD now trips out when bulbs fail or occaisonally when I switch off my garage light!!! Was becoming a right pain to have to reboot NASbox so I bought a Trust UPS from Maplins for £30. I'm not too worried about it powering down after a power cut I just needed something to keep the juice flowing when the RCD trips out :wink:
