ok I'm new at this media serving crap but I'll tell ya what..I built my own media pc and is small and I stream 180 movies and beyond media is flawless....
so this is the way I went...(and you dont need a ton of high end equipment)
amd 2400xp mobile chip with asrock board all in one 109.00
desktop case small 39.00
256 memory 39.00
wireless network card 29.00 ( on sale)
old 5 gig drive to put windows xp home addition
and beyond media
now compusa had a sale ( all the time )
ati video card with hdtv for 49.00
and a cheap 6.1 sound card 19.00
DONE
then I bought naslight from server elements 19.00
took and old comp from the basement (amd550 )
the only extra thing i had to buy was the hard drive space
thats where this is good......staple always has maxtor drives on sale
so 4...200gig drives 69.00 ea. after rebates (and i did get the rebates back )
i use dvd decripter put movies on drive and play
so for about 550.00 you have almost a terabyte media server with player
now for all the technical questions.....ive tried 5 different media servers
pinnacle show center 200
actiontech
linksys
dlink
pinnacle show center 1000
all had problems with glitches and sound
returned them all because you need a comp to run them anyway so why waste time
oh and by the way to run windows media center also is not compatable with alot of low end equipment so i got rid of that too.....lol
so anyway naslite is the best ....this is the nuts
thanks to sever elements and snapstream for 2 awsome products....
now if the 2 could get together and design a program to boot beyond media on a nas light server I would buy it and sell it, because i do own a small computer buisness
so thanks guys my movie watching is GREAT!......................................
