Hello,

How is it possible to connect a windows pc via a serial line (com 1 <-> com 1) to a NAS Lite + PC ?

I'd like to use this solution for administration instead of direct attached display, keyboard, mouse.

Best regards,

Dieter

p.s. Happy new year 2006 !

Why would you need to have a display, keyboard, and mouse attached when you can administer NASLite+ from a telnet window? Just telnet to the IP address you set your NASLite+ box to, login in as "admin" and supply whatever password you set up. You should then be able to administer the box without any problems.

Hope this suggestion helps.

The telnet connection is working.

If I would use a serial connection and shutdown the NAS+ server the advantage would be to see how the server is shutdown.

Using the telnet session the shutdown process will disconnect the TCP/IP service and the telnetsession is offline and then the only sign for the end of the shutdown-process are the beeps.

Best regards,

Dieter

Dieter:

What you want to do would require extra code which NASLite does not include. Plus you need extra code in your PC (which you may alredy have). Being able to see the actual shutdown on a monitor is useful, however, as you suggest. My solution (rather than the NASLite software route) is a KVM switch so that your PC and the NASLite box share one set of KeyBoard/Video/Mouse. Although the cable lengths with KVM are more limited than RS232 Serial connection, and so the NASLite box and the other PC need to be located near each other ... a US$20 investment seems the most effcient to me.
