What is your favorite/best player used with NASlite for serving media files. Video, music, photos.... etc.

So far mine is Windows Media Player... Seems to be the most stable, and the library functions quite well.

I use Irfanview for my photos.

Or you could go Whole Hog ("mmmmmm Hog" as Homer would say) and use an HTPC system. I am running Meedio http://www.meedio.com for my front end and NASLite+ as the storage for all the media. The 2 work really well together and even my 6yr old can work the interface and put on their fav wiggles tunes!

I downloaded a trial version of meedio and media portal and xlobby, I can't really get them to do what I want, xlobby is very configurable but it's so complicated I just gave up  I want Photo's, music, movies, Home movies/video (thats the stumbling block) and then access to my normal files, I don't want the My TV side of it, I have SKY+ and it's the best most intuitive technological thing I've ever come across. I have a friend who is very good with xlobby so I might get him to show me how to configure it myself.

But at the moment I just use the pc like a pc, my wife is pretty good with a pc and I don't have any kids yet so I can get away with it

I confess that in the new year I will be doing a mini upgrade on my HTPC and will be looking at MCE2005 but I'm not convinced.

I use Winamp for my Mp3's on the PC and Powerdvd for DVD files.

But i get most use out of Xbox Media Center on my Xbox. simple to use and has some great features.

I think mediaportal is the pc version of media centre on the xbox, I liked media centre on my xbox but I missed the flexibilty of the pc, now I miss the ease in which media centre was configured on the xbox
So hard to please

Beyond TV is what I use for my PVR, I love it. Very easy to use.
I record to MPEG2 then it will convert to DIVX at night and save it to my NAS.

It is connected to my LCD projection TV with a DVI connector.
It is great!!! 50" Windows desktop!!!! Very clear and easy to read. Perfect for surfing the net on my sofa.

Picassa from Google is also great for viewing photos.

Also iMON/iMEDIAN from http://www.soundgraph.com/ is quite good, and I think it is a free download. I have not played with it much yet.

I use Media Player Classic for all my AV needs, other than ripping CD's where MS MediaPlayer seems about the best

I like VLC media player abailable from http://www.videolan.org. It's free, the source is available if you are that wau inclined. The platform that they are many including Mac and linux. Currently that are some issues with players that can read DVDs.

During the night of 22nd to 23rd December 2005, while everybody is preparing for Christmas, the French Parliament will rule about the "DADVSI" law. This vote will be made with minimal discussion, as an "emergency" has been declared on this law.

However the is even a Server version called VLS (VideoLAN Server). You should also see the partners that are involved with this project.

at http://www.videolan.org/partners.html

If you are that way inclined then you could opt for the testing the new nightly version from

http://nightlies.videolan.org/

Cheers
