Hi,

I've just upgraded to 1.5.

Following this, I notice that my mount points and SMB shares seem to have a bit of a stutter i.e. the path names show a repetition of the disk name

E.G.

what did show as \\naslite\disk1 is now \\naslite\disk-1\disk1.

Any ideas what I might have done and how to fix this?

Thanks,

Perhaps I'm the only person with this problem?

Oh well, perhaps I'll be luckier with my second question:

How can I change the share name?

Hello Andy,

NASLite is virtually incapable of generating an export name such as the one you describe, so it's difficult for me to reach a conclusion as to what is causing it. I’d probably concentrate my efforts on the client machines since that’s most likely where the problem is.

To double-check the export names, take a look at the smbd.conf listing on the NASLite server info page. What you should see is “path = /export/Disk-1” and not “path = /export/Disk-1/Disk-1” as you describe.

No, you can’t change the share name. All shares are automatically created at boot time based on available media and it's location with respect to the IDE interfaces.

Hope that helps.

OK, SMB conf details are:
[global]
netbios name = NASLite
workgroup = MSHOME
server string = NASLite (IP: 192.168.0.50)
security = share
client codepage = 850
interfaces = eth0
name resolve order = bcast host
max open files = 1014
socket options = TCP_NODELAY
map archive = yes
map system = yes
map hidden = yes
nt acl support = yes

[Disk-1]
path = /export/Disk-1
comment = NAS Disk-1 ( Read / Write )
invalid users = root admin
guest account = NAS-User
read only = no
writeable = yes
public = yes

[Disks]
path = /export
comment = NAS Disks ( Read Only )
guest account = NAS-User
read only = yes
writeable = no
public = yes

and my XP box shows:

D:\home\andy>net view \\naslite
Shared resources at \\naslite

NASLite (IP: 192.168.0.50)

Share name Type Used as Comment

---------------------------------------------------------
Disk-1 Disk (UNC) NAS Disk-1 ( Read / Write )
Disks Disk NAS Disks ( Read Only )
Info Disk NAS Information ( Read Only )
The command completed successfully.

D:\home\andy>dir \\naslite\disk-1
Volume in drive \\naslite\disk-1 is Disk-1
Volume Serial Number is 1350-06F2

Directory of \\naslite\disk-1

27/11/2005 23:32 <DIR> .
24/11/2005 22:42 <DIR> ..
09/06/2005 22:12 <DIR> lost+found
28/11/2005 18:12 <DIR> disk1
0 File(s) 0 bytes
4 Dir(s) 96,867,450,880 bytes free

Does this make sense?

This makes perfect sense. You made a folder on the Disk-1 drive called disk1. ;-)

There is absolutely no way for NASLite to do that since it has no concept of disk1. This is most definitely a user created folder.

Well, if you say so!

Still, I thought that I'd have remembered moving 120Gb of data into a new directory structure!

At least it's reassuring to know this is an operator error rather than anything else.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Andy,

The name of the "duplicate folder" is disk1. That is not a name NASLite could have assigned since the proper syntax of disk assignment is Disk-1 and Disk-1 != disk1.

Unless you are suggesting that the configuration code took it upon itself to come up with a new naming scheme, operator error is the only conclusion that makes sense.

No, not suggesting anything of the sort.

Just trying to work out what I did so that I don't do it again!
