Could do with a bit of advice please guys,

If I buy a new hard drive can I format it to the correct file system, I think it's ext 2 but not sure, and fill it on a seperate windows xp pc? Will the windows pc see a hard drive formatted to ext 2 in an external caddy?

The reason is I have a friend who has some high def movies and I want to copy them directly onto the new hard drive in an external caddy then swap the drive out and install it in my NASbox. Taking the NASbox to my friends is not possible and I don't want to have to buy two big hard drive's one for transferring and one for the NAS.

The only answer I came up with is to put drive in caddy, copy high def, transfer high def to any spare hdd space on my network, put new now empty hdd in NASbox, format it, copy high def stuff onto NAS.

If thats the only way thats the whole weekend taken up then  the wife will be chuffed, "no can't take you shopping copying important stuff on network and yes it will take all day"

there must be other types of software that does the same and be freeware?
