Hi

Can someone please clarify the position on hardware RAID and software RAID setups with NASLite+ ? If the RAID setup is recognised as a boot device/drive, wouldn't it be usable from NASLite+

Thanks,

Dave

Booting is a function of the BIOS. The drivers that NASLite uses target specific range of hardware and are not related to what the BIOS supports. For example, NASLite can boot from a SCSI CD-ROM, however, NASLite does not include drivers to support SCSI or a CD-ROM.

RAID is considerably more complex than that since in addition to the required hardware drivers, NASLite will need to include the necessary facilities to manage the RAID.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm guessing I was getting confused that if a hardware RAID setup was hooked into Int13h drive controller interface of the BIOS via the RAID BIOS, then NASLite+ would work............

How hard is it for an end-user to modify NASLite+ so that it would include the specific RAID drivers (Adaptec 1210 in my case)

Thanks,

Dave

Can you add MDADM to NASLite+ ?

I just built an old PC with Fedora and created a RAID1 software array in about an hour. The MDADM files are tiny 103k.

I would take software RAID over JBOD.
