Hello all, thanks to forum member fat I can now connect to my server machine.

Now I am having another problem. Whenever I try to copy a file to the server machine, I get an error message that says: "Make sure disk is not full or write-protected or file is not currently in use."

Thanks for any help.

NASLite+ makes a share called Disks available as READ ONLY. To be able to write, you'll have to mount a Disk-X share.

That is true only in SMB, so the above does not apply to FTP and NFS access.

:D Thanks again to Tony! Now everything is working like before.

For the other newbies on this list like myself, here's how I was able to get back to normal. (with help from fat, on a previous post and Tony, for his reply to this one.)

This is if you're running Win XP: (Hit Enter after \\IPaddress\)
Start
Run
(type) \\IPaddress\ (your unique IP address mentioned in the NASLite+ manuel)

This brings up a folder box listing Disk-1, Disks and Info. Notice that in the Comments area Disk-1 is Read/Write. This is what I needed.

I had problems with NASLite+ at first (not being able to "see" the NAS server from my Win2K PCs) until I tried the solution described above (Start, Run, \\server name\). I was then able to map a drive on my desktop and laptop PCs to Disk-1 on the NAS server. The strange thing now is that the desktop sees Disk-1 as a roughly 200 GB drive (which it is), but the laptop sees it as having a capacity of only 3.87 MB (with 3.41 MB used and 470 KB free).

Any idea what's going on here? Why does my laptop think the 200 GB drive is only 3.87 MB? Btw, the laptop sees the "lost+found" directory on Disk-1, so it seems that it is "looking" at the right place.

Hello Elvis, I'm afraid I can't help you on this.

In my case, I only look at my NASLite server machine on one desktop.

I would suggest you send the question to Tony, who is the NASLite guru.

Elvis, this is indeed very strange. Since you are just mapping the drive it has nothing to do with hardware detection (which is usually the culprit for these types of problems).

Are you 100% sure you are mapping to the same place?

Also what are you running on your laptop? Its not something awful like Win ME is it?

Could you try copying a file larger than the space your laptop says the drive has free to it i.e. 10Mb.

Sorry i cant be of more assistance but i have never even heard of a problem like this.

Sounds like you may have mapped the laptop to the RAMdisk as its ia bout 4MB in size.

I discovered the problem. It was a "Doh!" moment.

While I thought I had mapped to "Disk-1" on the NAS server, I was actually mapped to "Disks\Disk-1." I had even disconnected and remapped several times to try and get it right, and each time the result was the same: a ~4 MB drive.

It finally hit me while I was sitting here staring at the Windows Explorer directory listing for "Disks on NAS server" trying to figure out what to do next (since NASLite was useless to me if I couldn't solve this problem). I was staring at directories labelled "Disk-1," "Info,"...and "Disks."

Doh! Despite thinking all this time that I had mapped the drive properly, the mapping was wrong, after all. Once I remapped to Disk-1 -- for real -- the problem was solved.
